Today, The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) organization protested against designer Giorgio Armani in Milan.

They staged a protest in front of the flagship Emporio Armani store in the Milan center with posters, which showed to the designer as Pinocchio, with a long nose. They accuse the designer of continuing to use animal fur, in spite of his promise to stop using fur in his collections.

“Giorgio Armani has not kept his word: a year ago he said he would not use fur any more, and instead in the new autumn collection there are jackets and skirts decorated with fur and even snow suits for children with real fur inserts”, PETA vice president Dan Mathews said.

The organization called for a boycott of Armani products. “We’re asking a lot from people: to change what they eat and wear. If our cause is supported by famous people the message arrives sooner”, Mathews explained. PETA already wrote some letters to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Meanwhile, Pamela Anderson was asked by PETA to try to convince the actress Cate Blanchett to use her influence with Giorgio Armani to end this practice.

One more time Valli has showed his voluminous items and extravagancy by means of spectacular dresses that are worthy of the best shows of “haute couture”. Although many designers are working with futurism and conceptual fashion, his baroque style is appreciated. Of course, it could look old-fashioned but the magnificent femininity of Valli’s designs is a delight for the senses and a gift for the eyes.

Sure, his style is not suitable for pragmatic people.

Maybe this collection is a homage to his teacher Cristobal Balenciaga and a public declaration of his intention of going beyond the line and being part of the top designers, maybe as member of Valentino fashion house, now when Alessandra Facchinetti has been fired.  A lot has been said about it but, at this time, there is not any confirmation. Anyway, it is not necessary to be in a hurry because the “appetizer” that Valli present us with his collection is the best way to introduce what will come later.

Transparencies, kimonos, clean cuts, sober colors and classic combinations are the features that Pilati presented in this collection, which seems very simple and sober but that it is absolutely exciting because Pilati combines solemnity, austerity and innovation.

Suits with pants are always present, and this time they have higher waists with short jackets: the blazer is going to be minimal.

So far, among all shows at the Paris Fashion Week, the one presented by Gareth Pugh has been one of the most remarkable. The collection of this English designer is really interesting. The catwalk was transformed into an art gallery, such as only the great designers can do.

Of course, this young designer’s proposals (because he is only 31) are only to appreciate the art, but always is great to have somebody who takes care of the senses, because the pleasure of seeing and appreciating such designs is priceless. His work is based on the innovation by  changing the context and using geometric shapes on the catwalks.

He did it again in Paris. He reinvented some concepts for women and jumped ahead in time a century or two, so his collection is very futuristic. Yeah, he creates his own world in each fashion show.

For the 2009 spring/summer season, Gareth Pugh takes his inspiration from Hamlet, Millais’ Ophelia and Elizabeth I. Some designs have the righteousness at the neck but with a splendor touch that made them unique. Some designs are completely white and some are combined with black.
