Do you buy second-hand clothes? Two Austrian young girls, who want to help our planet, have created a website with a novel idea: used t-shirts with a history. The online store is named Re-shirt and it sells T-shirts that have been donated by people from all over the world. Those T-shirts are special because they are main characters of a remarkable happening, according to the people who donate them.

A special trip, a great concert or a wonderful football game are only some of the histories related to more than 100 second-hand T-shirts that are offered by the website. They costs 25 euros. Each person who donates a T-shirt (instead of just throwing it away) is contributing an intangible and unique value: the personal history; at the same time, the person is donating an item another person can use as a sort of recycled material.

The two Austrian girls Anne Zacsek and Doris Kodym had the idea of creating this website when the university professor Wolfgang Wimmer explained them details about the cotton market and its environmental costs. According to the Vienna-based website, each hour 160,000 T-shirts are sold in United States; also, on average, 20,000 liters of water are needed to produce 1 kilogram of raw cotton.

At the beginning, the online store began to work with donations from well-known Austrian artists like comedian Alf Poer, photographer Lisi Gradnitzer or Wolfgang Wimmer. After washing each T-shirt, an orange label is attached to it. This label has an alphanumeric code that is unique for each T-shirt. According to the blog Treehuggerm, the new owner of the T-shirt will be able to write another chapter of the life of the T-shirt by typing the code in the website.
