Gareth Pugh at Paris Fashion Week - Spring / Summer 2009

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

So far, among all shows at the Paris Fashion Week, the one presented by Gareth Pugh has been one of the most remarkable. The collection of this English designer is really interesting. The catwalk was transformed into an art gallery, such as only the great designers can do.

Of course, this young designer’s proposals (because he is only 31) are only to appreciate the art, but always is great to have somebody who takes care of the senses, because the pleasure of seeing and appreciating such designs is priceless. His work is based on the innovation by  changing the context and using geometric shapes on the catwalks.

He did it again in Paris. He reinvented some concepts for women and jumped ahead in time a century or two, so his collection is very futuristic. Yeah, he creates his own world in each fashion show.

For the 2009 spring/summer season, Gareth Pugh takes his inspiration from Hamlet, Millais’ Ophelia and Elizabeth I. Some designs have the righteousness at the neck but with a splendor touch that made them unique. Some designs are completely white and some are combined with black.

Louis Vuitton mixes art and fashion in designer handbags

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Louis Vuitton mixes art and fashion in designer handbagsThe Paris based fashion house Louis Vuitton has several handbags that were designed by the Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Those handbags are a combination of art and fashion.

The experiment was a retrospective called “Murakami”. The work was exhibited at New York’s Brooklyn Museum. The exhibition, in which people bought Louis Vuitton handbags by Murakami,  closed on July 13.

The company’s flagship store on Paris’s Champs-Elysées shows everyone in the blink of an eye what they are selling, and it includes works by James Turrell and Olafur Eliasson, and has an art space.

Each handbag is special and has writing all over it. One of them reads: “Every time I meet a girl who can cook like my Mother… She looks like my Father”.  Other brands also seem to be interested in mixing art and fashion.

The stock market volatility boosts the arts and antiques market

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

The stock market volatility boosts the arts and antiques marketMore and more people are investing in the arts and antiques. For this reason, there is an increase in lot prices during the first quarter of the year, according to a report published this week.

The financial market volatility is encouraging the consumers to look for alternative investment opportunities among them, the arts and antiques, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ (RICS) first art and antiques survey.

The biggest demand was registered in lots with prices over 5,000 pounds (about 10,000 dollars), which indicates that many citizens see the art and antiques as long term investments.

In the current climate of uncertainty, many people are abandoning the financial sector to invest in tangible assets.
