* About Christian Dior (a bit of history)
Christian Dior was born in Granville (France) on January 29, 1905 and died in Montecatini (Italy) on October 24, 1957. He was an influential fashion designer who founded the fashion company that is also known as “Dior”, which is one of the most important luxury brands of the XX and XXI centuries.
Initially, Christian Dior was receiving education for a diplomatic career at the Ecole des Sciences Politiques in Paris. But this was only a transitory episode during his life.
Dior made some designs for Robert Piguet, a very important Parisian designer of that time.
In 1946, he founded a fashion house in Paris with the support of the textile magnate Marcel Boussac (who was known as France’s cotton king).
In 1947 he launched his first collection: The so-called “New Look” was especially remarkable, although that denomination was only a term coined by an American journalist (the real name of the collection was Corolle). There, Dior introduced a fashion style for women that included rounded shoulders, tight waists, and corolla-shaped wide skirts. Those skirts were really long, but the combination of the different clothing pieces looked really good, creating a beautiful silhouette.
On one occasion, in 1953, Dior was interviewed. He was asked about what queen was his favorite to wear his designs. He replied: “The only queen I ever dressed was Eva Peron”.
After his death, the fashion house Dior has continued its activities with other well-known and famous designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre and John Galliano.
