There are some requirements you need to meet before you can consider yourself an emo. Usually, an emo is really thin, and that is key. That way, the whole fashion that surrounds this subculture will look really good on your body.
The clothes that emos wear include jackets or coats which should be very tight. That is to say, usually, jackets should be one size smaller than usual. Besides that, you should verify that sleeves reach exactly the wrists. Also, make sure that the skin tight jeans will be uncovered in the waist area. The jackets can be made of cloth and leather, but cotton jackets are more common in the emo subculture.
As for colors, black is the star obviously. But lately, some color touches like blue (celestial, turquoise) and fuchsia are used in the clothes and make-up. And not only the girls: the emo boys are changing their preferences over time, too.
