Which is the result of combining Western sobriety and Sybaritic luxury of the Eastern fabrics? Givenchy knows that, and it is evident in its Givenchy Fall-Winter 2009/2010 Haute Couture collection: A combination of colorful designs and embroidered fabrics with textures that imitate the magnificence of precious stones. It’s like if the Byzantine Empire would emerge from the ashes or like if we were transported back in time to the Old Jerusalem when the Crusaders were fighting.
A travel through time that also reminds us a sober touch of European courts in the XVI Century: items full of satin, shiny silk, velvet… Everything has a well-elaborated, luxurious and really shiny design.
But the main feature of this collection is not centered around the fabrics, which comprise really beautiful cloths that hang softly to allow freedom of movement and also more rigid textures to add volume. The main feature is centered around stones, decorations and embroideries Riccardo Tsici adds to his Haute Couture creations.

This is a very different collection compared to the one of last year that had the inspiration in the Incan society from Peru (South America) as main feature. Now, there is a contrast between the Eastern and Western societies. Between sober styles and overloaded styles. But it is done in a very balanced way. Givenchy knows how to do that. No doubt, the great master Hubert de Givenchy would be very proud to see the effort of this designer and the course that his fashion house has taken over the last years.

Very eye catching. But sad to say this is not wearable. I don’t think someone will dare to wear such kind of clothes and walk on the street.
