If you don’t have a Kindle yet, you can officially consider yourself a Luddite. If you’ve haven’t heard of Kindle yet, you must have been living on Mars. If you’ve just been holding out until the features justify the price, well then, Amazon may have just tipped the scales in your favor. The new Kindle is the best model yet and it’s only $139!

First of all, you’ll notice it slimmer, lighter, and more responsive than any of the other incarnations. It also now comes in graphite gray because Amazon figured the off-white was a little too 2007. Also, there aren’t any number keys, you’ll have to sort through the symbols for those. Also, the rocker key has been minimized, which is great for handling.

Internally, you’re going to get twice as much storage (4GB—which will hold a ludicrous amount of text!) Also, the battery life has been doubled to up to four weeks on a single charge (with normal use and the wireless features disabled.)

While the Eink display is still only 6 inches (and still in grayscale) this new Kindle has a much higher contrast ratio which means everything is sharper and easier to see/read. The much touted webkit internet browser is a bit weak and honestly shouldn’t even be a selling point when you’re buying an e-reader. If you want a decent browser, buy a smart device or even a netbook. The kindle is for digital books.

There haven’t been that many changes over the Kindle 2 but the price drop (WiFi only models run $139 with the WiFi/3G models topping out at $189) is definitely enough to get even hardcore Luddites thinking about dropping come coin.

Remember your Commodore 64? (If you didn’t have one, your friends did.) Well now you can relive those glory days when home computing was young and the internet (as it exists today)was just a pipe dream. Commodore is launching a brand new PC that’s housed in a mock 64 body. That’s right, you can get all of the modern conveniences you need in a PC in a completely Retro case. How cool is that?

Inside you’ll find an Intel Atom processor with 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1TB hard drive. That’s pretty good for starters but it gets better. The PC64 also boasts an HDMI out and your choice of optical drive (DVD, Blu-Ray, or even CD for those who want to kick it old skool.)

Of course, you’ll never know it to look at it from the outside. Commodore is promising that the case is an exact replica. All the beige plastic your eyes can handle. Now all you have to worry about is redecorating your office to complete that retro 80’s feel. Can I suggest a Madonna poster or perhaps some Wham on vinyl?

You can get yours (hopefully) by the end of this year—so get in line now.

While there are plenty of mobile GPS units for cars and even hand-held units for hikers, Garmin has yet to cash in on an untapped market, cyclists—until now. Not content with providing users the Garmin Phone or letting them use official apps on their other smart devices, Garmin has created an entire device with the purpose of giving bike riders the global location services they need in a package they can actually handle.

The new 800 is a touch screen device with a 2.6 inch color LCD that can handle even the wildest rides. In fact, there has been a significant overhaul on the devices software including the addition of “HotFix” mapping so users can rest assured that their device will have no trouble catching or keeping a satellite signal.

It can also be integrated with their already-owned devices such as heart rate monitors and pedal speed monitors.

It’s not going to be cheap when it hits the market later this fall with a price tag of $449 for the base model, but if you’re a hardcore cyclist and need a GPS unit that’s built just for you, the Garmin 800 is pretty much your only option.

If you’re looking for a decent PC (and a tiny one at that) that will deliver the performance you need and not put a strain on your wallet, Zotac’s new Zboxes are probably worth your time to investigate. First off, they’re tiny—not much bigger than a book. Secondly, they come equipped with some decent hardware for such a small machine.

These PCs are powered by Intel CULV processors sporting Ion chipsets so you know you’re going to get the speed you need and they won’t suck the electricity like from your sockets like a little vampire!

You’ve got a few different models to choose from but the best are the HD series. They come sporting DDR3 RAM slots (RAM not included) and 2.5 inch hard drive slots (again not included) with NVIDIA Ion GPU On the outside, you’re looking at an HDMI out and DVI-I port.

All of the models have plenty of USB ports for all of your peripherals and the modularity of these models means you can mount them pretty much anywhere (including on the back of your LCD monitor!) And they’re snazzy enough to sit right on your desk and look like art (except for the wires.)

Base models will retail around $270 this fall.

And overshadows it’s much more budget-friendly cousin the PX950N.

LG has been an innovator in technology and household gadgetry for years and their entries into the modern LCD and Plasma TV arena have been quite impressive so far. Yet LG is not satisfied with their own solid foothold and wants to make a big splash at this year’s IFA. They’re bringing out the big guns with their 180 plasma prototype (the world’s largest).

You’re not going to be seeing one of these bad boys in a Best Buy near you anytime in the near future but the tech necessary to create this monstrosity will certainly trickle down to the consumer market sooner rather than later.

The smaller, more portable PX950N debuts at the same time and while exact specs aren’t exactly freely available (at least not until the big reveal on Wednesday September 1st) it looks like this beast features a 600Hz refresh rate and Multi Picture Format so still shots and video from your 3D cameras and camcorders will display properly. For hardware, the TV is pretty well equipped with a wireless audio video link and NetCast.

This is the first plasma to be awarded the coveted 3D THX certificate but you can bet it probably won’t be LG’s last.

Fujitsu’s Lifebooks aren’t exactly household computers but if you’re looking for a PC that gives you the power you need to get things done then you might just want to consider the AH530. It recently got a makeover (all of it under the hood) and now sports an external graphics card (1GB now available and 500MB soon to follow.) But is it really all that?

The new model is exactly the same as the old and sports a 15.6 inch LCD and allows you a host of choices when it comes to personalization. You can choose between Core i3, i5, or i7 processors and install up to 8GB of RAM. You can also choose your own hard drive but unfortunately those top out at 500GB (pretty small but there are plenty of cheap externals out there.)

You can choose either a Blu-Ray or DVD drive as well but is there really any choice there? Blu-Ray discs are the wave of the future after all so why handicap yourself out of the gate? You’ll also enjoy the HDMI out, Wireless b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1, and three (that’s right 3) USB 2.0 ports—maybe one for that new external hard drive?

Get yours now wherever Fujitsu laptops are sold.

Right now, Sony Corp. is developing a new line of 3D TVs that won’t need special glasses, a development that is part of an accelerated competition with its rival: Toshiba Corp. However, the company is facing technological and financial obstacles before making them available for sale.

Equally, this week Toshiba announced the same thing: It’s working on TVs with three-dimensional images which won’t require glasses, although the company has not said when to expect the launch of the product.

Most of 3D TVs that are currently available for sale (such as those made by Panasonic Corp and Sony Corp.) require glasses, though there are a few TVs that don’t need them. However, most of those latest TVs are being used to create expectation in the store displays.

There are important issues to solve yet: To get an acceptable effect, the user needs to be in an certain range of angles and the quality of the images is very poor compared to other TVs that require glasses.

If you can’t live without your slide-out full QWERTY keyboard on your cell phone or your TV remote just feels bulky, rest assured that Tivo has your best interest in mind. They’ve released a fancy remote for you called “The Slide.” It is just what it sounds like it is—a remote that slides open.

Technically it’s a little more than that. With Bluetooth (in the form of a dongle) and a full keyboard, you can use this thing from the other room! It’s a little smaller and thinner than the standard Tivo remote and may seem a bit lightweight in comparison. You can also get funky and use The Slide for a PC keyboard but your friends might look at you funny if you did.

Still, it is more functional and easy to use than the Tivo remote that comes with your box. Of course, what you really have to do is decide if you want to pay almost $90 for a TV remote. Personally, I’d skip over it but if you‘ve got money to burn and want to pimp your den to the max, you can get yours now.

JVC may seem a little behind the times when they offer up more pocket camcorders for the consumer market—after all, it’s been pretty saturated already and many smart phones actually eclipse other handheld units in quality. However, the GC-WP10 and the GC-FM2 are pretty reliable if a bit boring.

Both shoot in 1,920 X 1,080 at 30 frames per second (which isn’t bad) and both have excellent built-in image stabilization to cancel out the jerky motions amateur shooters often suffer from. Some of the cooler features include HDMI Outputs and a 3 inch touch screen LCD. You can jury rig Wi-Fi capabilities if you use EyeFi’s enable SD card (which seems like a bit much in this modern era when even TVs have Wi-Fi.)

The WP model is waterproof (hence the WP) but in order to accommodate the amateur undersea explorers, the camera sacrificed its optical zoom. The FM2 is a little more versatile with a pop-out USB. So depending on your personal needs you can choose accordingly.

The price tags are pretty fair at $179.95 for the FM2 and $20 more for the WP. Pick either up in September.

There is another sign of Skype’s potential growing: The Verizon customers in the United States can already install the famous VoIP application in mobile devices based on the BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless) platform.

The Skype apps for Blackberry and Android came out a few weeks ago, and now the developers of the company have announced the availability of the Skype version for the BREW platform of Qualcomm.

The BREW platform allows to run software and applications in different mobile phones like the LG enV Touch, the LG Chocolate Touch, and the Samsung Reality. However, it is one of the less popular platforms in the market.

According to one of the Skype blogs: “The Skype mobile app for Verizon Wireless 3G Multimedia phones works the same way it does on the carrier’s smartphones, letting you make free calls to friends and family on Skype, great value calls to landlines and mobile phones overseas, and send IMs to people on Skype anywhere in the world.”
