Hyundai Genesis and Ford F150 were named Car of the Year and Truck of the Year (respectively) at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. They were picked by voting of a panel of 50 specialized journalists from United States and Canada.

Genesis is the first Hyundai luxury sedan. It became the first model made by a Korean maker that wins this important award. In the final voting, it got more votes than the hatchback Volkswagen Jetta or the Ford Flex (a crossover vehicle).
“Genesis represents everything we have learned, so far, about engineering great automobiles – and we are delighted that the judges have recognized the good work of our R&D (research and development) teams”, said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America acting president and chief executive officer. He adds: “And we’re not stopping here [...] Genesis will share company in Hyundai showrooms this spring with its rear-wheel drive platform-mate, the Genesis Coupe”.

On the other hand, in the “best truck of the year” category, the Ford F-150 got more votes than other vehicles like the SUV Mercedes-Benz, ML320 BlueTec and the Dodge Ram pick-up.
