iPhone: The best-selling cell phone in United StatesiPhone, which is now the most popular Apple’s gadget, became the best-selling phone in United States during the third quarter of 2008, according to a report of the market research company NPD Group.

In spite of the price ($200), almost 7 million iPhones were sold during the quarter and, with these sales, iPhone surpassed Motorola Razr V3 which had been ranked #1 for the previous 12 quarters with a lower price.

A study made by Canalys showed that, due to the third quarter sales, Apple is ranked now on the second position among the best-selling smartphones this year, behind only Nokia.

With these results, Apple surpassed RIM (the BlackBerry maker) and Motorola. The Apple operating system is also the second most popular OS that are being used on cell phones, behind only Symbian, which powers all of Nokia’s phones.
