Four hot Gadgets of 2008

* Wii Balance Board: Wii Fit is a video game developed by Nintendo for the Wii console. It uses the pressure-sensitive Wii Balance Board. The board is used for an extensive array of fun and dynamic activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. Many of these activities focus towards providing a “core” workout, a popular exercise method that emphasizes slower, controlled motions. Family members will have fun staying active and talking about and comparing their results and progress on a new channel on the Wii Menu.

Cell phones with Google Android* Cell phones with Google Android: Google announced it’s finishing up a mobile-software package that will include an operating system and applications and cost absolutely nothing. But will not be a “Google phone” because Google only will provide the software. The phones will be made by companies like HTC, Motorola or Qualcomm. They will be launched at the middle of 2008.

iPhone 3G* iPhone 3G: AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson confirmed a 3G capable iPhone will be launched in 2008. This will be a great step for this device because, so far, it is enough good when you need to use it as a pretty device, media player or Internet browser… but maybe it’s not the best cell phone. However, with 3G, iPhone could be a hit again.

Penryn* Penryn: We won’t have to wait much longer (only until January) to meet the new Intel processors:  the next version of Core Duo with Penryn (codename) core. These new processors are able to run at 3 GHz  and they have a FSB (Front Side Bus)  at 1333 MHz. So far, the new desktop versions are called Wolfdale (dual-core)  and Yorkfield (quad-core). They will have Penryn core, SSE4 instructions, and important improvements for video encoding.

This is a simple tool but it could save your time. With Kwout you make a quote in three quick steps:

1- Grab a screenshot. You go to Kwout homepage and type the URL of the page you want to quote. Or, if you prefer, you can use the Kwout bookmarklet on your browser, so you only have to click the bookmarklet when you are on the page to be quoted.

2- Cut out an area. Kwout will show you a screenshot of the whole page where you  must select the area that you wish to quote. You select it by using the mouse.

The smallest Bible in the world

The smallest Bible in the worldSome researchers in Israel said they have successfully created a version of the Bible on a chip smaller than a pinhead.

The 300,000 words of the books included on Hebrew Bible were written on a silicon surface covered by a thin layer of gold, at the Haifa Institute of Technology (Technion).

The researchers used rays of tiny particles called gallium ions in order to write the words on a square with 0,5 mm side length .

The aim of the researchers is to increase the interest in nanoscience and nanotechnology.

RadioCube: Internet Radio in a simple way

RadioCube: Internet Radio in a simple wayThe RadioCube looks like one of those gadgets with a cool design that are presented but are never launched. But, this time it is different because we will be able to buy it. At least, its launching will be announced soon, during the CES 2008 (January 7-10, Las Vegas, USA).

But, first of all,  I am going to explain what it is. The RadioCube is an Internet radio receiver, and it uses Wi-Fi to connect online. The strange thing is, it doesn’t have any button, because it uses an alternative control method.

Its designers say that although there are thousands of available radio stations, at the end of the day we always end up listening the same ones, and for that reason, RadioCube only allows four different radio stations. If we need to select one of them, then  we have to place the gadget on the corresponding side, by rotating the cube.

Also, to turn off the radio, we will place it on the corresponding side for this function, while the sixth face is where the speaker is located. The volume is controlled without buttons, too: we have to incline the receiver laterally to make the volume louder or lower.

MOG: Discover people through music and music through people

MOG: Discover people through music and music through peopleMOG is a blogging network for music lovers where users can publish thoughts about music and also they can share the names of the songs that they play on their computers (PC or Mac) by using a downloadable program called MOG-O-MATIC that runs in the background and automatically detects songs that you have in your computer folders. (Previously, you must configure the folders which MOG-O-MATIC will search on).

It is a blogging network because you can compose posts about your favorite artists, songs or albums. Even you can add videos from a third party like You Tube. And other people can comment about your posts and vote for them (”Like It” button).

MOG is also a social network for music lovers (musicians or fans) and you can find some friends (”moggers”) to share musical tastes. You can use a link “Find MOGs like me” in your MOG page, once you have signed up (for free). Or You can search for a person’s real name, but unless you get it exactly right, you will not get any results. You can also search for a person’s Screen Name if you know it.

To listen the full songs in this musical network you must be a a Rhapsody subscriber, which costs $12 per month. Anyway, non-subscribers will still be treated to the free streaming of 25 songs per month if they download a small application. The bad news are for the residents outside of the United States, because they only can listen 30-second-long samples at this time. Of course, residents within the United States can listen the samples too if they don’t want to download anything or pay for the premium service.
